Last DJ Standing

21 NOVEMBER AT 11AM SLT

Are you ready to push your DJ skills to the limit? The Gathering presents Last DJ Standing, an epic free-for-all sonic showdown that will test even the most seasoned DJs. This electrifying event will pit DJs against each other in high-octane, fast-paced battles where quick thinking and musical mastery are a must. DJs may enter as individuals or duos.

In this brand-new concept for Second Life, each DJ/team will have just 90 seconds to prepare before diving into their 10-minute set. Your challenge? Mix and match tracks based on surprise criteria, which could range from specific song themes (love songs, party anthems), electronic genres (techno, DnB, house), or even a particular BPM or musical key. You'll need to think on your feet, choose songs that fit within the time limit, and use DJ tricks like on-the-fly cues to shorten tracks—without sacrificing your style or professionalism.

And the best part? The crowd will decide the winners through real-time, on-the-spot voting. Get ready to impress!

HOW TO ENTER

Think you've got what it takes? Sign up for the tryouts, which will be held throughout November at The Gathering sim. The tryouts follow the same rules as the big event: your team will have just 90 seconds to process the criteria before performing your 10-minute set. There’s no preferential treatment here—everyone has to earn their spot. Unlike the main event, the tryouts will be judged by a small panel of experts.

THE RULES

  • No pre-made playlists or mashups allowed! This is a live battle, so all track selection and mixing must be done in real time. DJs who violate this rule will face immediate disqualification.

  • Each set is 10 minutes long—not a second more. Your team must stop mixing once the 10-minute mark is hit. Time management is crucial, so plan your set carefully to avoid going over or finishing too early. Hitting the 10-minute mark exactly will earn you bonus respect from the crowd.

  • DJs are expected to display strong technical skills such as beatmatching, creative transitions, and on-the-fly CUE jumps. You may also use looping, effects, and EQ adjustments as long as they enhance the mix and align with the criteria given. Shortening tracks with CUE points or loops is allowed, but transitions should be smooth, maintaining the flow and energy of your set.

  • You may enter as an individual or a team of two.  Duos can decide whether to share the stream and mix together, or take turns with one DJ handling half the set and the other taking over for the rest. Coordination between teammates is crucial! Communication between teammates is allowed, but must be kept minimal and professional if done publicly during the set to maintain the flow.

  • The ability to read the crowd and adapt your set accordingly is vital. Keep the energy high and make sure your transitions keep the audience hooked. Remember, the crowd’s vote will decide the winner, so charm them with your creativity and engagement!

  • Since the criteria could call for a variety of genres, it’s important that you’re familiar with a wide range of music, from electronic to pop. Being well-versed in multiple styles will give your team an edge.

  • Respect your competitors and the rules of the game. Friendly banter is welcome, but unsportsmanlike behavior, such as trash-talking, sabotaging others, or any form of cheating, will lead to disqualification.

  • The selection criteria will only happen through the tryouts - no exception unfortunately.

PRIZES

Beyond the glory of being crowned *Last DJ Standing*, there will be amazing prizes for the Grand Champion and two runner-ups. Keep an eye out for the prize announcements!

Good luck, and may your music, skill, and perseverance guide you to victory!
